Education and Accreditation Goals
EESA is working to promote and develop various avenues for training and professional accreditation for entertainment electrical work nationally.
EIPT Program
The Entertainment Industry Power Technician, EIPT 269E is a registered voluntary electrical trade in the province of Ontario, Canada, developed by EESA in collaboration with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) and the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities (MTCU). The program includes a full apprenticeship package and is open to any entertainment industry worker (but recognized as a trade only in Ontario). There are prerequisites to entering the apprenticeship program or challenging the final exam.
The trade and certification course has been developed from a competency analysis profile derived from the varied facets of the entertainment industry. It is designed for current and future workers employed in the various electrical departments throughout the entertainment industry.

Why We Need Certification
The Electrical Safety Authority is the provincial regulatory body for conducting electrical inspections. There is a legal requirement by the MTCU for persons/contractors doing electrical work in the province of Ontario to have an active certification of qualification for electrician. The Ministry of Labour (MOL), is responsible for the enforcement of the certification on behalf of the MTCU. Those performing electrical work in the Province of Ontario without certification can face liability and penalties against both the worker and employer. The reality of this necessitates the establishment of a measurable benchmark for those engaged in such work.
This benchmark once attained testifies that the worker has adequate electrical knowledge and experience to ensure that usual entertainment industry practices are safely, efficiently and properly addressed. The MOL, through enforcement ensures the safety of all persons directly and indirectly involved, either as employees, workers or as bystanders.
The EIPT Trade is an example of a documented benchmark elevating the "Entertainment Electrical Worker" to a recognized, certified trade (in the province of Ontario).
